You would be part of a friendly and supportive team of governors who contribute greatly to the continued success of each school.</p>\n <p>Governors are people like you – you do not need to be a parent, but you do need to be over 18 and have a passion about improving the standard of education for all pupils in Luton schools. Any additional skills you have in either your work or family life is a bonus.</p>\n <p>This is a voluntary role and you will be fully trained and supported throughout – meetings are generally held in the evenings and are a mixture of face to face and online.</p>\n <p>School Governors work together to carry out their core functions:</p>\n <ol>\n <li>ensuring there is clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction</li>\n <li>holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff</li>\n <li>overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent</li>\n </ol>\n <p>Governors must also ensure that the governing body complies with all legal and statutory requirements.</p>\n <p> </p>\n <p></p>\n <h2>Benefits from becoming a governor</h2>\n <p></p>\n <ul>\n <li>The opportunity to develop new skills and to strengthen existing ones.</li>\n <li>An opportunity to strengthen your own CV for future work opportunities or voluntary roles</li>\n <li>The opportunity to practise work talents.
